The number of forest certification schemes and associated standards has increased dramatically over recent years. Unfortunately, some of these standards do not provide the environmental and social guarantees that the public expects.
First launched in 1994, the Soil Association's Woodmark programme only certifies to standards which meet our requirements for quality and integrity.
Internationally, Woodmark recognise and certify to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved standards.
Standards development
In addition to contributing to the development of local forestry standards in all the countries where we have issued certificates, Woodmark staff have also contributed to standards development processes in other countries, including Chile and Denmark.
In the UK, Woodmark also recognise the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme (UKWAS) standard which is supported by the Forestry Commission, FSC and various environmental groups, including the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust.
More recently Woodmark have developed a series of organic forestry standards applicable to both timber and non-timber forest products, and we are developing organic farm woodland standards.
Woodmark's web pages provide detailed information about certification for every kind of forest and timber certification, including downloadable forms.
