Types of Certification
Switch to sustainable fashion & textiles
As the UK's largest organic certification body, we provide certification to a variety of fashion, personal care and textiles businesses. From point of ginning through to trading. Our textiles certification schemes assure your customers that your products have been made to the highest standards of quality and integrity – and that this has been independently verified.
Much like health and beauty, there is no legal requirement in place to protect organic in fashion and textiles. Consumers are demanding more sustainable alternatives to their everyday textile products, Our 2019 Organic Market Report found that spending on ethical clothing increased by 19.9% in 2018. Organic textiles certification is meeting increased consumer expectations of authenticity and transparency.
With GOTS certification, sales of Soil Association Certification certified textiles increased by 18% in the UK in 2018, making the market worth £41.3 million.
Who is certification for?
We certify a wide range of businesses involved in processing or manufacturing organic textiles, specifically cotton and wool. These include:
- Fashion brands offering an organic range
- Entirely organic brands
- Homeware and soft furnishing brands – everything from rugs and throws to mattresses and towels
- Fabric wholesalers
- Ginners, spinners, weavers and anyone involved in creating textiles.
What certification do we offer?
We offer two certification schemes; Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS) and Organic Content Standard. We are the only provider of these schemes in the UK. The Soil Association charity is a founder member of GOTS with representatives in the Global Standard gGmbH and Standards Committee.
